| My current work re-invents the architecture of naturally occurring geometric forms and examines how we interact with them in physical space. I utilize geometric forms with which we are familiar and emphasize their mathematical basis in nature. The geometric forms I investigate are based on either naturally occurring logarithmic line patterns or three-dimensional structures that we utilize in our architectural design. I want these altered geometric forms to present new movement, unusual symmetries, and re-invented structure. I emphasize the outer body of these forms, and construct an inaccessible interior space that defines the volume and density of the object. With my sculptural work, I attempt to create shadow ‘drawings’ produced by the piece on the surrounding environment that highlight the structural intricacies and emphasize the abstraction of the geometric form of the sculpture. In some instances, the shadow drawings produced by the sculpture is the end product, and the sculpture functions more as a drawing tool. I try to provide the viewer with a new analysis of these common forms and an experience that neither nature nor architecture can provide. I am not disappointed if the viewer does not experience what I intend, as long as some kind of reaction occurs. |
